Let's Get Inspired

Kitchen Inspiration
When I sat down today I had no clue what I was going to write about for this weeks blog post.  I began to think about things I've been doing in school and how I could turn them into a recipe or post for MallaryMade.  Then I stopped for a little bit and did nothing other than, but watch Chef's Table on Netflix.  I find this show so incredibly inspiring, as these chefs talk about the struggles they went through to get their dream restaurant, Michelin Star, or other recognition they deserved.  As I've mentioned before in my Johnson and Wales post, I think as of right now my overall goal is to obtain a Michelin Star.  Already, along the way I've had many obstacles, that made me want to give up on becoming a chef, but it's really important to remember that we're all humans and just because of one mistake, you shouldn't give up on your dreams and goals.  So what are the small things that keep me going towards my goal?

Here's a few of them:

1. Putting on my chef coat every morning
When I get ready for class everyday, I look in the mirror while I button my chef coat, and when I look at the Johnson and Wales logo on the right corner of my coat, something comes over me and it's like a dream.  My name tag on my chef coat is a moment of awe. This is real, so many famous chefs have gone here, through this same process, and it gives me an inspiration that when I graduate I'll be ready to take on the world.

2. Thinking about my dream restaurant
Whether or not I want to open my own restaurant is still up in the air, but if I do I want to open a gastronomy inspired fine dining restaurant.  I want to serve comfort food though.  I know that these two things don't particularly go together, which is why I want to do it.  I want to take everyone's childhood favorites, all the foods you've heard of before, the ones your mom made you as a kid, and present them in a brand new way, a way you've never experienced the classic foods you love.  Most fine dining restaurants serve food that is out of your comfort zone, things you've never tried or haven't heard of, I want to do the exact opposite.

3. Classic French Cuisine
Of course, because I'm in culinary school, they're teaching the basics, which if you didn't know, all the classic sauces, knife cuts and cooking techniques are French.  So lately, I've been finding French cuisine very fascinating.  I love to read more and more about it, if you're looking to well versed about food, I suggest just reading about the French cuisine and history of food.

4. Michelin Star Restaurants
Looking up different Michelin Star restaurants and reading about their history and how they became, the struggles they had, I find inspiring.  I love the hard-work behind it, the enormous amount of hours they put it, and the small details and precision in every plate.  If you're ever looking for creativity inspiration read some of their menus for new ideas in the kitchen.

5. Pictures of food
While yes this will make you hungry, it's so exciting to me.  Looking at different restaurants food, especially plating can be so inspiring, and makes me want to be a chef even more. Plating shows the end production from an entire kitchen, it shows what you and your team can put together at the end of the day, and I see that as a reason to keep going, even after many obstacles you will face during the day, an amazing plate will come out at the end of the day.  You can even create a menu of your own while doing this, by getting little ideas from all different restaurants, you can put together your own dinner.

I know this was a short little post today, but I hope it helps some people to get back in the kitchen.  The kitchen is a great place to let out some creativity, a lot of people don't realize that Culinary is truly an art.  Culinary Arts has an endless amount of combinations, and who knows, maybe you'll create the next new big thing.

Let me know what you guys want to read about next week!

From my kitchen to yours,
MallaryMade💗
